Overview

The Indian Coast Guard, an Armed Force under the Ministry of Defence, invites online applications from young and dynamic male Indian citizens for the post of Assistant Commandant (Group 'A' Gazetted Officer) for the 2027 Batch. The recruitment is for General Duty and Technical (Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics) branches. Applications are accepted online from 08 July 2025 (1600 HRS) to 23 July 2025 (2230 HRS) through the official website.

Stage-I Result Declaration: Within 30 days post-exam

Tentative Training Start: Early January 2027

Eligibility Criteria

General Duty (GD)

  • Age: 21-25 years as on 01 Jul 2026 (born between 01 Jul 2001 & 30 Jun 2005, both inclusive)
  • Gender: Male
  • Educational Qualification:
    • Graduate Degree from a recognized university
    • Mathematics and Physics up to Intermediate or Class XII (10+2+3 scheme) or equivalent
    • Diploma holders with Physics and Mathematics are also eligible
  • Age Relaxation: 5 years for personnel serving in Coast Guard or equivalent in Army/Navy/Air Force

Technical (Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics)

  • Age: 21-25 years as on 01 Jul 2026 (born between 01 Jul 2001 & 30 Jun 2005, both inclusive)
  • Gender: Male
  • Educational Qualification:
    • Engineering Degree in Naval Architecture, Mechanical, Marine, Automotive, Mechatronics, Metallurgy, Aeronautical, Aerospace, Electrical, Electronics & Telecommunication, Instrumentation, or related fields with minimum 60% marks
    • Mathematics and Physics up to Intermediate or Class XII (10+2+3 scheme) or equivalent
    • Diploma holders with Physics and Mathematics are also eligible
  • Age Relaxation: 5 years for personnel serving in Coast Guard or equivalent in Army/Navy/Air Force

Additional Eligibility

  • Candidates withdrawn from service training academies on disciplinary grounds are ineligible
  • No history of arrest, conviction, or criminal charges
  • Candidates debarred from public service exams are ineligible
  • Final-year degree students must submit proof of passing by 31 Oct 2026

Selection Procedure

Stage-I: CGCAT

  • Computer-based online screening test (CGCAT)
  • Merit-based shortlisting for Stage-II (PSB)
  • Marks normalized across different shifts

Note: Stage-I results announced within 30 days. Ties at the cutoff include all candidates with the same marks.

Stage-II: Preliminary Selection Board (PSB)

  • Biometric and document verification
  • Candidates select exam center and date (subject to ICG discretion)
  • Rejection for discrepancies in documents

Stage-III: Final Selection Board (FSB)

  • Conducted at Coast Guard Selection Board, Noida
  • Spans 4-5 days with psychological tests, group tasks, and interviews
  • Schedule intimated via candidate's login ID

Stage-IV: Medical Examination

  • Special Medical Board (SMB) at Base Hospital, New Delhi
  • Option for appeal and Review Medical Board (RMB) if declared unfit
  • Medical standards: No disabilities; detailed guidelines on ICG website

Stage-V: Induction

  • Merit list based on Stage-I and Stage-III marks
  • Training at Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala
  • Naval Orientation Course: 44 weeks (GD), 22 weeks (Technical)
  • Tentative induction by 27 Dec 2026

Important Notes

  • Merit list uploaded in December 2026
  • Branch allocation based on merit and vacancies, prioritizing Option-I
  • Candidates may be discharged during training for unsatisfactory progress or conduct

  3. Upload required documents and live image capture
  4. Select five preferred exam cities (first choice within 30 km of residence)
  5. Pay application fee (amount not specified in document)

Important Instructions

  • Fee non-refundable except for multiple payments
  • Multiple applications lead to rejection
  • Mobile phones/electronic devices prohibited in exam centers
  • First choice of exam city must be within 30 km of residence, or candidature may be cancelled
  • ICG may allot any exam center regardless of preferences

Travel Expenses

  • SC/ST candidates (unemployed) reimbursed 2nd class fare for Stage-I if beyond 30 km
  • Stage-II/III: AC III/Chair Car or bus fare reimbursed for first-time FSB candidates
  • SC/ST candidates get 2nd class fare for PSB/FSB regardless of appearances

Documents Required

For Online Registration

  • Passport-size photo (taken after June 2024, 10-100 KB, no spectacles, name/date written)
  • Live image capture during registration
  • Scanned signature image
  • 10th class marksheet or Birth Certificate (The birth certificate should be in English or Hindi)
  • Identity proof (Aadhar, Voter ID, Passport, PAN, Driving License)
  • Service Certificate/NOC for serving personnel
  • Vigilance Certificate for Armed Forces/Govt. employees
  • Domicile Certificate for height relaxation candidates

For Stage-II (PSB)

  • 10th/12th marksheets and certificates
  • Diploma/Graduation marksheets (year-wise/semester-wise)
  • Original/Provisional Degree certificate
  • Certificate cum undertaking for final-year students
  • Category Certificate (if applicable)
  • NOC for serving Government employees (dated on/after application)

For Stage-IV (Medical Examination)

  • Stage-III E-admit card
  • Original Photo ID as mentioned in application

For Stage-V (Induction)

  • Appointment Letter
  • 10th/12th passing certificates and marksheets
  • Degree certificate and final-year marksheet
  • Aadhar, Voter ID, PAN Card (or application proof)
  • SC/ST/OBC certificate (if applicable)
  • Own Risk Certificate, Declaration, Marital Status Certificate
  • Bond and Additional Bond by parents
  • Anti-Ragging Certificate

Important Note

Resident Certificate is not a Domicile Certificate. Uploading Resident Certificate instead of Domicile Certificate will lead to rejection.
